why is it relevant to make work like this on a global level?? or personal level?
- it illuminates untold stories or the hidden
- allows me to challenge a certain 'othering' manufactured through mass media
- making a hole to breathe and discover everyday life (the mundane)
- it makes something more accessible, the world is big and complicated, making things more understandable
- gives a perspective, does not pretend to be objective
- a reminder to the world that art has value because artists can deconstruct given 'anchors'
- a way to deal with the overload of information
- a way of making sense of too much information and the technologies we are interacting with
- in regards to the assemblage: alongside we also need more images to make new understandings, but its not just new images but a way of changing how these images are used
- in relation to ariella's work: curating and bring to the forefront images or information that has been hidden or been made to be hidden
- inspires to keep bringing stories into personal work
- violence in indifference, participating and making an effort to do so is better than not doing anything, need to navigate ethics morals etc
- personal as political , encouraged me to become a participant, and treat things a little more casually, there is a danger when trying to grapple with politics to produce work that is heavy handed
- challenge the 'we,' reveal assumptions
why is it relevant from a journalism perspective:
- art is a tool to tell multiple stories
- art can break through certain structures
why is it relevant in relation to art:
- prejudice of what art is or what it can do
- lives in the art world and is perceived as an art world thing
