H&M Ad Becomes Art(?)

I thought this is an interesting example of relying on what is already existing and making one small addition to turn an image into something totally different. I don't think it's very successful though because it doesn't seem thought out and lacks depth.

This wouldn't seem like anything but a strange glitch in printing to viewers who are not familiar with Photoshop. For me, even with the knowledge of what Photoshop is, I'm still asking: So what? Who doesn't know that commercial images are tweaked using technology? That images of models are heavily edited is a common topic now, so all this is doing is just pointing to that subject for the billionth time. There's nothing new for the viewers but the reminder that the topic is a trend these days. Perhaps this is leading me to think that a truly powerful image requires some form of surprise... I'm not sure. Maybe that's not right. For this particular piece, what I'm trying to say is that the punch line is never delivered. I'm still waiting, saying: "And...?"

I didn't look into the artist, Daniel Soares, but here's his website. Seems like this might be the only work that's obviously about social commentary.
