Dominant Fiction, Tate

Is the image an interesting failure?

Images ask us to see what we are predisposed to see

We build our images knowing they also contain our suicide

How to makes images of imageless things.
Should we try, and why?
"What does an image of global warming look like?"

The image is a failure always; the unseen aspects, the unarticulated, hidden, false etc
fuel our hunger for more images

a hunger to see things from a different angle
the hunger to ourselves from a different angle
as to appear new
and possible

"we do not know what it is we are seeing until we have been taught"

documents construct narratives rather than represent them

truth always an unstable concept

emancipated spectator
free to interpret
